Pitchfork Review Hospice

Posted almost 3 years ago

After a gazillion years ( 2 YEARS GO CHECK MY OLDER POSTS DAMN IT) of talking about them to everyone i know and basically doing everything but shoving the album in their lymph nodes-#

The Antlers have a 8.5 from bitchfork. ok pitchfork but i heard someone say that and it was pretty funny in a ''hahah bitchfork...i love that place'' kind of way.

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13196-hospice/

It's not like i read pitchfork ( I SWEAR) but apparently everyone else listens to what they say is 10.0>0.0 and even people who get mad at the fact that everyone listens to what they tell them to and say 'you only like it because pitchfork told you to'. Those people are the best btw.

About the record. It's kind of a huge achievement being a self-released record and will probably get them a whole bunch more fans. Good/Bad??? not sure. Pitchfork has a way of going through new bands and regurgitating them a few months later. Can't live with them can't live without them. Although their reuse of the word 'woozy' annoys me. Theres a very funny review of this here http://www.last.fm/user/Dr_Moonmaster/journal/2009/02/08/2gudfa_%22a_woozy%2C_boozy_way_with_sound%22%2C_omgstfu_srsly.

ok this really is about the record.

Hospice is pretty incredible. Ambient but not ' why is this so long', electronic similar to mount eerie but not. if that makes any sense. repeat the album at least 5 times. then probably on the 6th you'll realise that your ears are bleeding and you're motionless staring at the record player thinking ' what just happened'. oh yeah it's also a little shoegaze. melancholic, heartbreaking, mournful but so hopeful. exaultant almost.

"...you told me I ought to be leaving. But something kept me standing by that hospital bed, I should have quit but instead I took care of you." - Kettering

so as per usual my posts are bordering on the 'insert inane dork ramblings here '

please be easy on me. i've pretty much forgotten how to write. (medical degree + me = most boring person ever at 20)

wake is my favourite track - comforting and completely heartwrenching. i feel like i've been walking through the song without breathing.
