Carrie Underwood to join Grand Ole Opry

Posted about 1 year ago
On March 15th Randy Travis extended an invitation for Carrie Underwood to join the Grand Ole Opry. A fitting gesture since Underwood covered Travis' number 1 hit "I Told You So" on her newest album "Carnival Ride". Carrie made her Grand Ole Opry debut on June 10, 2005, just two weeks after winning "American Idol." She will be inducted as an official member on May 10.
Underwood seems to be the only Idol winning who hasn't fallen on harsh times as of late. Kat Mcphee, Ruben Studdard, and Taylor Hicks were all dropped from their respective labels. The most recent albums from Kelly Clarkson and Fantasia performed poorly on store shelves. Maybe country fans are a little more loyal to their artists... who knows

  1. hawaiianpunch says I think that may be true. I think that country record labels are not as cold and corporate. I have no idea. But, that's just the sense I get. The other artists seemed to get lost in the marketing machine of pop music and since country is still kind of a niche, maybe she had more room to move around grow into that role. It's unfortunate because for all the crap that the actual show has become, the talent that comes out of it is still really amazing. And, season five was the only one I ever saw all the way through and it seems like those folks have had the most staying power. At least in terms of their being in the spotlight, record labels be damned. Kat McPhee is still in the gossip columns. Daughtry is doing his best to stay on the charts with his Nickelback-aping. Eliot Yamin had a big hit based purely on his own determination to make it after the show (good going!). Taylor Hicks??? I'm happy for Carrie Underwood. She has a great voice and her records are genuinely genuine country. Gotta respect that in all this marketing hoopla.
