Chris Daughtry: “American Idol†Is “in a State of Declineâ€

Past American Idol contestants badmouthing the show after they've gained all they could from it is not a new concept. In light of the recent failures from past Idol alumni, Chris Daughtry piled on a little more criticism stating the show was "in decline".

“I feel like it’s definitely lacking some credibility at this point, he told Rolling Stone. "It’s in a state of decline and if they don’t do something about it, it’s probably not gonna last too much longer. I’m sure that’ll be used against me, but that’s the truth, you know?â€
While the shows popularity hasn't seen a huge dropoff, 2007 was the very first year that viewership and concert sales did not increase. When you also add the fact that Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee have all been dropped by their record labels this could be seen as the beginning of the end. Daughtry thinks the gimmicky portion where they show untalented singers may be a little much.
“People get tired of seeing people that suck,†he says. “It’s funny at first, but come on. They spend three weeks on people that can’t sing, and that’s what they’re banking it on. [They should] find some people that you can really invest in.â€
