Suddenly it all fell into place! I went to The Luminaire in Kilburn last night. Another last minute one from thelondonpaper gig listings. But I’m so pleased I spotted it. First up were Striplight, punk if I were to put any label on them. Excellent though and a female bass player which will please Becca when I tell her. Then, and this is where the coincidences start, followed Danbert Nobacon. Me having mentioned the Chumbas in my last two posts. Danbert’s Danbert so you have to take the rough with the smooth but I thought he was good. The headline act were Jon Langford’s Ship And Pilot. Now two of my all favourites are Kevin Coyne and Pere Ubu. Kevin Coyne had recorded One Day In Chicago with Jon Langford & The Pine Valley Cosmonauts. And who was playing bass in Ship And Pilot? Only Tony Maimone my all time favourite bass player of all time and ex-Pere Ubu-ist. Great to see him again. Absolutely great.

  1. Spencer Owen says I haven't enjoyed any of Jon Langford's solo albums, but I love the Mekons, and someday I'd like to see one of 'em live (if not the whole band ... fat chance). Tony Maimone played bass on They Might Be Giants' John Henry, and quite well I might add.
