WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Famous Blue Raincoat

"Its four in the morning, the end of decemberIm writing you now just to see if youre betterNew york is cold, but I like where Im livingTheres music on clinton street all through the evening.I hear that youre building your little house deep in the desertYoure living for nothing now, I hope youre keeping some kind of record.Yes, and jane came by with a lock of your hairShe said that you gave it to herThat night that you planned to go clearDid you ever go clear? Ah, the last time we saw you you looked so much olderYour famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulderYoud been to the station to meet every trainAnd you came home without lili marleneAnd you treated my woman to a flake of your lifeAnd when she came back she was nobodys wife.Well I see you there with the rose in your teethOne more thin gypsy thiefWell I see janes awake --She sends her regards. And what can I tell you my brother, my killerWhat can I possibly say? I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive youIm glad you stood in my way.If you ever come by here, for jane or for meYour enemy is sleeping, and his woman is free.Yes, and thanks, for the trouble you took from her eyesI thought it was there for good so I never tried. And jane came by with a lock of your hairShe said that you gave it to herThat night that you planned to go clear-- sincerely, l. cohen"Leonard Cohen,

  1. asrati says It's 3:36 in the morning, the end of December. New York is cold, but I like where I'm living. And this song is a mysterious and spine-chilling epic of the heart and soul. It's been my friend now for almost twenty years, and familiarity only sharpens it. Thanks for dropping it down before me this morning.

  2. deadmandeadman says What an excellent choice for my first track this Sunday Morning. L.C. has mapped the terrain of bruised hearts and battered souls as well as anyone +ever+ has. Good call, dude.

  3. dermahrk says I bought this album when it came out, played it a couple of times and didn't like it. A month ago I downloaded a CD of it one of my kids had bought and was entranced. This is definitely one of the best songs on the CD. Thanks for posting it.
