WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

But is it any good...?

Posted about 1 year ago
Much has been made of Nine Inch Nails' new album being given away for free. And I do applaud Mr. Reznor for continuing down the digital road he's on....however...The Slip just isn't very good. It sounds as though he had a bunch of B-Sides laying around and put them together. There's no inventiveness in the sounds. It all sounds like well-recorded demos. It's a particular dissapointment coming on the heels of Ghosts, which seemed a much more considered, mature work. Here's hoping he keeps going down the 'Ghosts' road and not the lazy Slip-stream...

  1. davesonic says An ok rock album from a great band. Is it their best? No way. Is it still better than 80% of the music that is out right now, hell yeah. And Trent Reznor is doing more for the fans than any other artist out there right. Fans will like it and go to the shows, if you aren't a fan, you won't care.

  3. democlez says If it weren't offered up for free, would I have thrown down some money to buy it? Can't say I would. I agree that coming on the heels of Ghosts (which I bought online and also plan to purchase a physical copy of down the road) this album was a bit of a let down. However, it is free and it does have a few catchy tunes (echoplex is starting to grow on me). I agree with Dave; even though it's not Trent's best work, it's the thought that counts. He cares for and understands his fans more than any other artist I can think of.

  5. Aaronstory says I'm not sure lowering the bar is the best response to a band putting out substandard music. Is it better than "80 percent of what's out there"? Of course. Is it close to The Fragile or the Downward Spiral? Not even close... I completely agree that Trent is at the forefront of established artists that are making inroads toward their fans (see my MySpace blog post titled "Radiohead are starting to piss me off - www.myspace.com/someonesstory) His tour/ticket plan is amazing and appreciated. Just wish he'd be as considered when making the music.
