WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Neurosis Live: heavier than Dethklok

I know, I know, I haven't posted in like forever. I think I had SABD (seasonal anti-blogging disorder). Anyhow--I'll at least do posts on some shows I've been to since Spank Rock.Neurosis with Red SparowesGreat American Music HallSun, Jan 14This show was a strange sensation to say the least. I hadn't heard much of the band before going--just a couple of quick-ganked albums the day of the show (one of which was a collaboration with Jarboe, who will always creep me out to no end...bleah). Looking them up in Wikipedia's awesome tangled web of metal sub-genres puts them squarely in "Atmospheric Sludge Metal," whatever that means. The metal was so good my friend Alex cried blood. Part of the deal with sludge, as you might guess, is a slow, thick sound. For the first half of the set Neurosis lulled the entire packed audience into sleepy beer-soaked trance when BOOM we were hit with a mega-assault of guitars, drums, and three screaming vocalists. Ears rang for days. Awesome show.Neurosis - The Eye of Every Storm (iTunes Link)
