OMG

When Rick Ross raps about cocaine I trust him.

I don't know about you, but when most violence-crime-machismo rappers talk about dealing drugs, I imagine them slangin' on a corner somewhere--making money, but kind of pathetic at the same time. Dirty and gritty in a gray-colored place like New York. When Rick Ross talks about hustlin', I think of him as some kind of drug-lord kingpin guy. It could be because he's from Miami and _Miami Vice_ was on the air from the time I was 5 until the time I was 10. They got a lot of sunshine in Miami, I hear.--*plus* he rhymes "Atlantic" with "Atlantic." ...a tip he may have pulled from R.Kelly's _Trapped in the Closet_ genius.
...I don't even have street cred in email.
That "I'm Bad" song sounds like a terrible Rocky training-theme-song, but Ross somehow makes it likable. This man has powers. "Hit U From The Back" is on my top 10 shortlist for 06 thug love anthems.
I doubt there'll be another album by him worth listening to, but this one's a 2006 keeper.

  2. 82times says The guy is borderline silly with his over-confidence. I mean, really, he gloats about Manuel Noriega owing him "100 favors" in "Hustlin'"...which, if you're on the fence about Ross, is the one song worth the hard drive space. ...but, do get the new Jedi Mind Tricks record that came out this week. There are songs about the Vietnam war, sweatshop labor, and suicide...and it sounds good and gritty, too. They use kinda like a polished-up version of the style of sampling Wu-Tang did when I was in Jr. High playing Sega, so its almost like nostalgia-rap for me.
