WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

We Should All Be Famous...

Posted over 3 years ago
ARGH!!! GOOD GRIEF!!! I'm am sorry all but this is it I have finally had it up to here with all of these pseudo artists claiming the glory and the respect of music as actually contributing something that will be remembered and make a difference... Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas with her solo release and an old horn toot about "Gwen Stefani":http://www.zshare.net/download/gwen-stefani-wind-it-upreal-mp3.html.I mean I suppose all you have to do is be somewhat attractive and the fans will come flocking to you... What kind of message are we sending to the younger generation about music? The most these kids know now is how to gangsta it up or hoe it out take your pick... I suppose that is the new Gwen Stefani song that has got me all worked up, but that is besides the point... The point is that since most of what is aired on the radio is mostly what all the world listens to (even if they don't realize it... I swear I knew the words to shoulder lean 3 weeks before I went and bought it) is meaningless. If all it takes is good looks and a hot track behind it with one or two words that stand out to form a hook instantly a "Song" is made... What the phucc; phucc a duck... Talk to me people...

  1. CrashPryor says "...all you have to do is be somewhat attractive and the fans will come flocking to you…" that's about it in a nutshell...but sometimes a flower grows throgh the crack in the pavement...believe me, I see it out here all the time in "Floss-Angeles"...I feel you tho..

  3. Lord Helmet says Cannot stand the new Fergie crap... Hoe-ing it out to the maximus. Very disenchanting.

  4. Puffmagic says If I'm getting what you're saying correctly, society is crumbling? That it? If so then I agree. I think the youths need better rolemodels than pop artists. Or musicians in general to be completely honest because the whole idea of pop culture seems to be: get as much money as you can as fast as you can, have as much sex as your body can handle, look out for #1 and don't take shit from anyone. Not really great values. But these artists are funded and promoted by companies who's values are aligned with the music they sell, so what can you expect?

  7. Jess Horrible says sigh... it's true, too. I tried to be famous for a minute, and then suddenly found myself prancing around in eyeliner and sparkly clothes and I had to call it off. It's a scary world out there. It also has something to do with the hunger for fame. It attracts a certain type of person, sad but true...

  8. Puffmagic says Fergie's not even hot. She just looks like every other dolled-up, air-brushed piece of meat in the media. It's so sad that these days you have to be "hot" in order to have "talent". Like no one will buy your record if they can't feel horny looking at the "artist", how many actually good signers/musicians are out there not making it cause they don't look like Timberlake or the Pussycat Whores?

  10. 530nm says Anna that is very true... And Puff I totally feel you... My question is how can the music-intelligent help those who are coming into their window of open imprssions? We all talk a great deal amongst one another, but what about those we don't talk to? Should we install an adopt a new MOG program and help them or at least inform them about good music... Not to say they should stray from mainstream because hell even I am guilty of loving whats on the radio but we should all do our part to say something you know...

  14. Lord Helmet says 530nm... I strongly (like to) believe that the groundwork for this musical renoissance (spelling butchered 2bsure!) has already been laid via the web-olution of the industry. The major labels, Clear Channel/Live Nation... these forces that have perpetuated the homogenous nature of popular music have been shaking in their boots for the last few years because they know that their days are numbered. Also a reluctant conisseur (spelling butchered again, I know) of pop-culture, did you watch the MTV music video awards this year. Something seemed to be eerily foreshadowing about the suppressed vibe of that scene 2 me...

  15. slantera says I agree. Today's music is not meant for the younger generation. Look at Nelly Furtado's, 'Promiscuous'. How the hell could that have been allowed on the airwaves? It's funny how the FCC, functions. Well said, 530nm, well said.

  16. Anna says Naw, I don't want anyone to change. If they do, I won't have many people to make fun of.

  17. CrashPryor says ...well, to be certain, 530's gripe has been heard since the first peanut was compressed into a phonograph needle (ok, that's an Eddie Murphy/ Shabazz K Morton joke...I digress)...the real talented heads will be around long after the dust settles on all this "faux artistry" and bling-blingin'...just check the lyrics to Fishbone's "Behavior control Technician":http://lyrics.duble.com/lyrics/F/fishbone-lyrics/fishbone-behavior-control-technician-lyrics.htm it touches on e: above...

  18. 530nm says I did see the MTV "awards"... and that is exactly what they are awards for music on television... it has nothing to do with actual artistry... Anyway there was an eerie feel to it... We should come up with a MOG award ceremony... It would take more planning than I could actually do on my own what with my limited time to everything else I seem to dive into head first, but it's a thought that maybe someone here could run wild with and actually organize (clearing throat) Dale, Anna, Jess, Kate... You all are the MOG(ods) that could put something like this together... Anyway I stray from the subject matter... Lord Helmet is right in saying "The major labels, Clear Channel/Live Nation… these forces that have perpetuated the homogenous nature of popular music". When unoriginal music is copied by another who is also not of creative descent there is a spiraling effect that takes the sounds and saturates the air with a general notion that "As long as it sounds like this or that... Why then it must be music" And Slantera... All I can say is thank you and right on... FCC is very funny that way... however as long as I can listen to the instrumental of that song it's great... but it brings up something very true to the nature of which we speak... When sweet little had my heart on a platter Nelly Furtado came out she was so pure and full of songs that (while not so good) actually did have some meaning to them... Now fast forward a couple of years and she becomes super sex symbol singing about what? PHUCCING!!! Mind you I am a man who loves some good lovin' but come on!!! There is a better way to say that you just want a good phucc and that's it rather than making it the hook of your song and basis of every other word... tell me a story(i.e. Your Body's a Wonderland by John Mayer), then no matter how raunchy you get... Hell at least I will consider the fact you took some time to write what you wanted everyone to hear...

  20. Lord Helmet says Nelly Furtado’s, ‘Promiscuous’--another great example Slantera. At first, I thought it was an endearing testament to her having accepted her own sexuality and I respected her for it. She still had the pipes and I thought it was a good mix of her unique style/voice with an urban twist. ...But then she followed up with another release that is exactly the same. No longer cute to me.

  21. slantera says You know what, 530nm? What ever happened to the good old days of expressing one's self? 'Always & Forever', by Heatwave, is one of my all time favorites. The song had meaning and tons of emo. I believe it was Johnnie Wilder, Jr., who sang his heart out on that song. He gave it feeling, something that not all so-called artists do now-a-days. Not to get sappy, but, come on. I think there are other ways of expressing one's self without saying, "Let's phucc!".

  24. ivylander says Oh, God, this post deserves an entire book. No, a fucking library. I don't think there's anything to say that we don't already know about our collective addiction to the idea of being famous, our glorification of attention junkies, our deification of the physically "perfect," our extraordinarily peculiar idea that the pinnacle of human existence is somehow getting on national TV. (I say this as someone who stumbled into a blessedly temporary gig as a frequent TV talking head in a previous life.) What depresses the living shit outta me is that we never learn. Ever. OK, through being a downer. Let's all keep talking to each other, always. This and my home are the only two places I know that haven't been turned into Velveeta. Yes, Nelly Furtado, I'm talkin' to you, and about a zillion others.

  31. consumerx says Maybe there's some hope out there for the talented, but not telegenic. LICENSING As I heard it said at a recent conference "the beauty of licensing (for TV, film, games, etc) is that you can be fat, ugly or even dead and still get some attention." Probably it's not every budding rockstar's dream to have songs placed in a TV show, but hey it puts food on the table and i have no problem with seeing fewer megastars and more talented musicians who can quit their day jobs.

  32. SamTheButcher says 530 - I love the idea of MOG awards! Some of the MOGsters could set up a voting system (Or I could try...getting my web-programming schwerve on) where we could all nominate, then take the top 5 nominees, then have another vote for the winner, one vote per MOGger....Dude. DUDE. THAT would be excellent. This year's VMAs felt so stale and tired...nothing exciting. At all. I mean, what, Gorillaz played with Madonna at the Grammys, right? You KNOW something's fucked up when the Grammy's are hotter than the VMAs. I mean, the Grammys got fuggin' SLY STONE with a SILVER MOHAWK fer crissakes. The damn GRAMMYS son! Ack. Way more good music out there than what's on the radio, what little music MTV plays. MOG awards. Who's with me?
