MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

Artist:
Track: Joy
(22)

Gospel funk? Is that even a genre?

Well, Tyka Nelson, is new to the game when it comes to Gospel music.

In her past recording life she was a pop singer, but now she is singing songs to praise her new outlook on life after having her hardships in life as most of us do.

The four songs of hers that I had the pleasure of listening to are:

Joy Good Day rock or roll Won't Cost a Penny

All the songs are funky with a heavy bass which is a treat to any true lover of funk with that extra sweetness of an angelic voice that will have you bobbing your head throughout each track.

The song "Joy" is asking for that Joy in having a spiritual connection with a higher being. Tyka does not say exactly God or Jesus while singing this song so no matter what religion you may be studying or practicing, she is singing for you.

Good Day opens with a whimisical sound that is airy but then it goes into the funk that I love. She is praising Jesus here which I enjoy.

rock or roll is another jazz funky treat which actually reminds me of the new jack swing beats from the early 1990s, but not in a Teddy Riley way but in a unique Tyka Nelson way for it is the drum beats that only remind me of the New Jack Swing but 21st century style.

Won't Cost a Penny reminds me of a praise fest because Tyka is singing that it won't cost a penny to praise God.

These four songs were a great "teaser" for the album that Tyka plans to release next year. I look forward to hearing more from her and I thank her for her sharing her journeys in life with her listener.

Listening to her song "Joy" in particular has encouraged me to find a church home so that I can have that weekly Joy with others who are striving for a spiritual balance in their life.

I'm lacking real experiences with Jesus, but I do like a prospect of joy. I guess music and love are about as spiritual as I get ;)

I heard the Prince too, Ivylander, but that is what happens when you are related to him! =) I did not want to bias the review but she is related to the funky man.

Mickimicki mickimicki - most definitely!

Guess what family? Prince CLEARED up the controversy over his image dispute. It is not ALL the images that he is after of him on the internet but only the ones that he does not hold copyright too:

I hope he didn't recruit his cousin into the Witnesses... I mean, their heaven is overcrowded already, anyway...

(Have you by any chance read "White Teeth" by Zadie Smith? That's where my "Jehovah's Witnesses" insights are from, mostly... it's a hilarious read.)

You know I am pathetic. I have Zadie's book white teeth and I have not read it. That may have to be the next book I read. I just finished re-reading an Autobiography of Malcolm X. Great read and just seeing his evolution as a man with all his conflicting beliefs and realizing his faults. Glad I read it from front to back with out skipping a beat.

U okay, micki?
