Souad Massi - Algerian Singer

Posted over 4 years ago
This year through www.last.fm on the Arabic tag I heard some of the most heavenly voices, but Souad Massi's voice was the one that made me want to listen to her music more. Finally, I was able to get one her albums, Honeysuckle (mesk elil). To me, her voice sounds as if an angel is crying in despair but holding on to hope that tomorrow maybe better. Here is a great interview that I read about her at afropop.org: Souad Massi Interviewhttp://www.afropop.org/multi/interview/ID/88/Souad+Massi-2006/In listening to Souad's music today I heard about the tragic news in Algeria.Algerian News: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aXallVfV7nAE&refer=homePlease pray for the families affected and pray for hope that our world can attain peace. It distresses me how everyone is living in fear. But, know to appreciate each day that God grants to us. 1. Spike says She has a beautiful voice. The melody is sweet. Except for the fact that the lyrics seem to be in Arabic, the performance seems more French than Algerian. If only more countries could solve their political problems without violence.

  2. 2Serenity says Wow! Thanks for letting me know she is singing more in French than Arabic. I cannot tell because I do not know Arabic and my French is not that great. Obviously my French is pretty bad if she is singing more in French! Thanks for your thoughts, Spike!

  3. Spike says Her performance seems French, but not in French, although I'm not sure about anything these days, except that I enjoyed her performance.

  5. Bartleby says Souad Massi is quite famous in France so I guess it's only fair that this footage comes from this country. (Incidentally, it looks like it was shot at a festival called Francofolies in the French city of La Rochelle - quite nice if you get a chance to visit) Thanks for this sweet reminiscence.

  6. 2Serenity says Ahh..thank you for the love, Bartleby. If the dollar ever gets strong again I will be in France. The last time I was there was in 1985!! LONG time ago. I did the typical tourist visits. I would love to visit again. I was ALL over France. It was a 2 week trip. I will never forget it. First, time I had mussels and saw so much history with my own eyes. Changed my perspective of the world for an 11 year old back then to have that experience! It was a school trip too! I went to a Catholic private school here in the USA. Our sister school was in France. I have no idea of the name of the sister school. First time I had crepes too. I remember the best crepes were on the street! Apple crepes. I think I am hungry. I better eat something good! =)
