WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

:::the rock band that i wanna be in:::

Posted over 2 years ago
every time we listen a good record or watch a great rock band live, you can think "oh... i would love to play in that band... i can donate my entire organs just to be part of that".... but let's face it... let's put our feet down... everyone's got a particular personality and we've gotta know where and with whom we can fit in... so i've always think about that... in my fantasies, in which rock band that i like, i can fit in?..... where can i feel confortable?..... which one is the rock band that i wanna be?....i love hip hop... but i know is hard to picture myself next to chuck d and flavor flav.... they'll crush me in the first week in the road... flavor could make me laugh, but i know i'll be sick of him in a while.... and chuck d really frighten me.... so public enemy is not my kind of band... although i'm really fan....i grew up listening to the who.... but i can't think in myself going to keith moon's room to wake him up to go to a soundcheck.... or waiting him..... maybe we could end up drinking instead of playing....also i'm pretty sure that pete townshend is a genius... but it seems to be a little hard to deal with....reading this mog, you can notice that i'm such a big pulp fan.... but i dunno.... i couldn't be in a band handled by a big personality like jarvis cocker.... i'm sure that he doesn't allow me to write lyrics.... and surelly i'll be jealous of steve mckey because how they get along..... and add the fact that i can fall in love with candida doyle.... is hard for me.... but pulp is not the one...talking 'bout girls.... i really love to play with the breeders... just imagine playing that kind of guitar and being in a band with awesome vocals... but i'm pretty sure that in the first months of rehearsals i'll start to look to kim deal with heart-shaped eyes.... yeah... soo sure.... and maybe it can work... but in the first fight i'll be fired... 'cause, yes, it's her band....the pixies and jesus and mary chain are the same as pulp... frank black and the reid borthers got such big egos and maybe i'm not prepared to deal with that... maybe as a guest musician for the road.... same with beck.... it would be fun...mmmhh.... how about the flaming lips?.... it can be fun.... but i dunno... i'll end up jumping off the stage directly to the crowd with my panda suit... and wayne coyne may not stand that... or stealing their fake blood... just for fun.... he will get mad...i've always thought of a band "that i wanna be in"... without any doubt it must be the buzzcocks... i'm sure i'll get along with howard devoto... it will be easy for me to deal with pete shelley than with tom morello or damon albarn, for example.... i'll not feel intimidated to play with them as i would be with bowie or ian curtis... it will be easier to party with them than with underworld or the beastie boys.... i'll feel safer with them than with the wutang-clan or the sex pistols.... it will be so much fun with them than with the shins or badly drawn boy... the tours will be less complicated with them than with the arcade fire or sly and the family stone.... it will be more confortable to play "fast cars" or "orgasm addict" than "last caress" (misfits) or "heroin" (the velvet underground).... yes.... i'm convinced.... the buzzcocks is the band i've always want to be part of.... so sure.... (as i'm so sure that i can donate my entire organs just to play a song with all of the groups above and below)...is hard to picture ourselves working with our fav musicians.... (remember that all this is a great great fantasy).... there are so many other groups i can think of playing with... there are some backups or "second places"... like happy mondays.... weezer (later i may tell you my real and glorious experience playing with them in their last concert in mexico city)... mudhoney... the clash... stone roses.... the new york dolls... primal scream.... pavement.... the dead boys.... the rapture... the smiths.... hehehe..... yes... i'm dreaming again..... it's just fantasy...

  1. RobP says for what it's worth, the bass line to boredom is pretty easy to play. devoto's long gone of course, but he did show up on some reunion tour (in the 90s i think). you list some damn fine bands there, yeah the fantasies run rampant.

  2. not-ian says have you seen the rock family trees episode and god created manchester Mike Joyce has the same feelings about being asked to drum in The Buzzcocks when they reformed in 1989

  3. dj ivi says i could really be in the yeah yeah yeahs. except nick is already the best guitar player. i think i would love touring with the 3 of them, and i would fit quite nicely in th band. i just need to cultivate an "i don't care about the fame" attitude to deal with the pressures as well as they do.... great post, got me thinking!

  4. lemontwist says I've never really thought of what band I'd want to play in... an interesting question indeed. I'll have to think about it. :)

  5. Dale says Given that I'm useless with any musical instrument, this questions hasn't popped in mind, but it's a good question nonetheless. I'll be watching the replies.

  8. 130N31 says how about swan, elastica or the undertones?... damn!... i forgot to put those... i'm thinking in the buzzcocks 1979 line up.... i thought of sleater kinney or white stripes... but... they're a well formed duo and trio.... and maybe it will be hard to vanish that kind of magic.... (like the yeah yeah yeahs) we don't need to play any instrument... remember... it's just fantasy....
