The first 2007 release that I've liked so far (Arcade Fire awaits a careful listen), What's The Time Mr. Wolf by the British band Noisettes is an inventive, tight, and pleasantly off-kilter post-punk-soul album. It's their debut, and a little uneven in song material, but quite promising and fun. The vocalist has been compared to Karen O, and the band runs the gamut from Gang Of Four to The BellRays and from jazzy drum fills to big riffs that drip sex. My fave after three listens is probably the climbing "Bridge To Canada." They will be touring in the US this month, supporting TV On The Radio. Catch them live if you can, stream them at MySpace, and watch a video for "Don't Give Up":

Cool! I want them to tour with Charlotte Hatherley. I feel some similarities going on. But this is friggin' fabo.

I got "Don't Give Up" on a Brit magazine "free" sampler (yeah, but the magazine costs 10 bucks!) and can't get it off of my iPod!

Yes, the vocals do bring Karen O to mind, which is not good for me, but I see the potential. Good music and good band name!

Nice way to invigorate a Sunday evening...and I can see the TV on the Radio fit, too. Thanks for the raising the attention: I trust your ear.

They supported Muse at Wembley Arena last year and I was most impressed, not only did their funky rock fill the place incredibly well considering it was an arena gig but the lead singer looked fabulous in stripy tights and a bright green tutu.
