The Weirdness by The Stooges is my musical disappointment #2 of 2007. (The string began with The Shins.) The Allmusicguide review sums up my feelings pretty well. A boring, muddy sound and what f*ckin' dumb lyrics. And mind you, this is coming from someone who thinks that Fun House and Raw Power are among the very few records that can compete for the title of the best rock'n'roll album of all time. I've been let down and it hurts.

Oh SNAP! You didn't like the Shins album?
However, though I haven't heard the Stooges album I've only heard bad things about it.

Everything eventually turns to shit, Father Time is a muthaf*cka. Even to Iggy.

You really had aspirations for this album in the first place? Nah, just more vanilla grandad rock, to me.

Lester, the stellar live show I saw last year had me hoping that something worthy could come out of it. (Radio Birdman did it with their comeback record last year, though New York Dolls less so.)

I keep hearing bad stuff about this album...it's not age, BTW, Mr. Jonze. Lots of old punkers (the Fall, Pere Ubu, Nightingales, Mission of Burma, Radio Birdman as you say) still doing crazy good stuff.

I heard one song awhile back and I just knew it was going to suck.

I was talking to a friend here in Sweden (who is a big Stooges fan, and they are certainly a big influence on his band) about this upcoming Stooges release and sadly we are both a bit pessimistic. And I think we both share your thoughs on Fun House and Raw Power. Still classics. This new Stooges album has quite a past to live up to. I'm not going to judge it until I hear the whole thing.
