WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Extremely cool punk video archive

Posted over 2 years ago
Click here and here to get to 40-odd vintage punk (and post-punk, power pop, and new wave) live performances, shot mostly (a handful of exceptions aside) in Boston, mostly between 1979-1983. (Sorry, the videos aren't in embeddable form.) Make sure you don't limit your viewing to Mission Of Burma, Gang Of Four, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, Buzzcocks, Dead Kennedys, Siouxsie & The Banshees, The Cure, and XTC. "Hey (I'm Not Another Face In The Crowd)" by Thrills is well worth your time. So are "Don't Give It Up Now" by Lyres (some of whose CDs are still more or less in print) and "I Don't Want To Know" by Robin Lane & The Chartbusters.

  5. ciphermedia says Hey Pekka, good find! Just had a quick look at a few of these. The Jam are bloody great! Absolutely bursting with energy. Was a bit disappointed by The Clash's live version of 'The Clampdown' - really bad mic technique by the band - the end of just about every line trails off because they keep pulling away from the mics too early. However, The Buzzcocks are pretty cool. Ditto The Cure - 'Killing An Arab'. Always loved that song. So many more still to look at. Thanks for this.

  7. 1234chainsaw says Oh shoot, I forgot to credit my source. How bad of me. Thanks, Nicki. I got this via Boing Boing. Jonathan, my favorite Cure performance was "Grinding Halt" - somehow I've always really liked that song, not the least for the bass line.
