Anyone else not receiving MOG notification emails?

Posted almost 5 years ago
I almost missed Nicki's Grinderman post because I haven't been getting MOG notification emails almost all day. (There's a conspicuous absence of Blair on my computer screen today [evil grin].)To ease the pain, here's "Palace & Main" from the most recent album, Du och jag döden, by the Swedish band Kent (about whom I should post in more detail). Lest you think the Vegas backdrop in the video is entirely frivolous, note that the lyrics are pretty noirish and with film references. The first verse and chorus translate roughly as follows (unless my rusty Swedish is leading me to bad mistakes): "I shot a DJ late last night/ The blood splattered, became a Pollock in his booth/ I'm fleeing along a dark corridor/ And my indie heart beats and beats and beats/ . . . I'm standing by the airport and waiting for the feeling/ Man on a ledge, a cool-as-ice Michael Caine/ And all who have loved you have hated me out of fear/ that I'll see them as victims of Palace & Main."

  3. 1234chainsaw says Anna, sorry to hear that not getting any (notifications) is a bummer. Anyway, about the song, the rest of the lyrics unfold in a sort of predictable way. The guy ends up with a plan to wait for the woman for whom he has killed (the only other thing we hear about her is "You have everything I said on tape/ So you think you have a future without me") at [where else?] Palace and Main (they are referring to an intersection in Portland). The video has an interesting story behind it. Apparently it was filmed on a simple DV-camera and features guitarist Harri Mänty (no longer with the band) traveling to Vegas to gamble the entire video budget (roughly 40 000 USD) on the roulette. He puts the money on black and wins. Afterwards, the profits were donated to a Swedish fund for children with cancer. Here's an English version of an older song of Kent's called "If You Were Here," which is pretty good too, except that its lyrics are more dumb (they're better in Swedish):

  4. Augusts1 says Yea, I'm not getting email notifications & it's driving me crazy. If you go into the mogosphere though you can check out the "posts you've commented on" option on the dropdown menu which has helped me stay abreast of it all.

  5. 1234chainsaw says August, what did you think I've been doing all day (apart from making a mix CD)? Those filtering options are handy. I've set up email notifications only for when a trusted MOG makes a post, and mogosphere has a filter for that, too.

  6. Anna says Thank you so much for all the info, Pekka! That was a very interesting vid story. And *good god* I know If You Were Here! I used to play it on repeat one! Whoa! I was taken aback. I've had my vision blurred more than once with the company of that song... Oh dear.
